Alex Trachtenberg
Energy Efficiency Director
Alex Trachtenberg is the Energy Efficiency Director at Groundswell. He oversees the strategic development and deployment of residential per-weatherization and energy efficiency upgrades, specifically managing the SOUL program to improve hundreds of homes annually across local and state markets. Alex’s work centers on collaborating with team members, stakeholders, and contractors to increase energy affordability and resilience for under-resourced households.
With over 14 years of experience in clean energy and sustainability across the private, government, and nonprofit sectors, Alex is enthusiastic about building cross-sector partnerships and utilizing strategy and data to create sustainable community impact.
Before joining Groundswell, Alex served as Director of Operations at Hummingbird, where he oversaw nearly 75 community engagement and data analytics projects impacting over 300 communities nationwide. He was also the Energy & Sustainability Manager for Fulton County Government, where he directed the county’s Sustainability & Resilience Plan, managed utility tracking and efficiency improvements, and successfully launched one of Georgia’s first community resilience hubs.
Alex’s diverse career also includes a nine-year tenure at the Southface Institute, where he functioned as the Georgia State Lead for Energy Efficiency for All, spearheading advocacy and program design for the state’s first income-qualified energy efficiency program and acted as Climate Champion for the Atlanta Regional Commission’s TransFormation Alliance.
He holds a Master of Public Policy from Georgia State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
