A new behind-the-meter solar installation at Ark Refuge Ministries in LaGrange, Georgia, now provides clean, locally generated energy thanks to a collaboration between Ark Refuge Ministries, Solar Tyme USA, The Solutions Project, and Groundswell.
Behind-the-meter solar projects through Groundswell are situated on the host site's property and directly reduce the host site's electricity bills. At Ark Refuge Ministries, this project will help the nonprofit save on energy costs through clean, reliable energy.
Ark Refuge Chief Executive Officer Yvonne Lopez leads the nonprofit’s efforts to restore the lives of individuals and families affected by issues related to homelessness and substance abuse. Ark Refuge has impacted countless individuals' lives during the roughly 30 years that it has provided spiritual, educational, mentoring, and support to the LaGrange community. This behind-the-meter solar installation will provide savings that will further the nonprofit’s mission.
This behind-the-meter solar project will provide approximately 10 MWh of energy annually, reducing the nonprofit's electricity costs in combination with energy efficiency improvements. This resulting savings will further aid the nonprofit in its ministries in the community.
Construction of this behind the meter solar project is expected to begin in 2020 and is funded by The Solutions Project, a national nonprofit organization that seeks to accelerate the transition to 100% clean energy and equitable access to healthy air, water, and soils by supporting climate justice organizations, in partnership with Groundswell. Solar Tyme USA, a Black woman-owned Columbus based solar installation firm, is the engineering, procurement, and construction firm.
