In 2021, Groundswell partnered with Ark Refuge Ministries, Solar Tyme USA, and The Solutions Project to install behind-the-meter solar at the Ark Refuge Ministries location responsible for serving the community and restoring the lives of individuals and families affected by issues related to homelessness and substance abuse.
Behind-the-meter solar projects through Groundswell are located on the host site's property and directly reduce the host site's electricity bills, helping nonprofits like Ark Refuge Ministries save on energy costs through clean, reliable energy. The on-site behind-the-meter solar installation produces approximately 10 MWh of energy annually, reducing electricity costs in combination with energy efficiency improvements.
This installation was funded by The Solutions Project, a national nonprofit organization that seeks to accelerate the transition to 100% clean energy and equitable access to healthy air, water, and soils by supporting climate justice organizations, in partnership with Groundswell. Solar Tyme USA, a Black woman-owned Columbus-based solar installation firm, was the engineering, procurement, and construction firm.
