Preparing for Power

On June 19, 2020, Groundswell will host a Juneteenth celebration to kick off our bi-weekly Prepare for Power concert series. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the U.S., and it is an important day to celebrate freedom while making room for new leaders to cast their vision and carry the future forward.

As activists, business leaders, and communities across the country come together to demand justice for black lives lost, we will come together to reflect and to refocus on our shared journey toward a more equitable future for us all.

The concert will be from 6-7p.m. ET with performances by our very own Bartees Cox (AKA, Bartees Strange) and his mother, acclaimed opera and gospel singer Dr. Donna M. Cox. Dr. Mildred "Mama Bahati" McClain will make opening remarks to ground the celebration.

The “Prepare for Power” concert series will continue through Labor Day — featuring artists, activists, and thought leaders who are preparing their communities for a more equitable and empowering energy future. This series is free and open to all.
